Mathletics 2013
This is my design for Mathletics this year.
Here is what we will need to be able to do to make a good Mathletics poster.
We will know we can do this when:
Used a ruler to accurately measure and draw all straight lines
Our design is symmetrical (balanced) from the centre or rotated
Any curved lines are drawn with a compass
There are no free drawn lines
Has Mathletics 2013 carefully drawn
Black and white only- (sharpie)
All unneeded pencil lines are rubbed out.

Ninja Pig
The new animal, Ninja Pig has formed and did you know that he can do a triple back flip kick? Ninja Pig is Spider Pig’s brother ( the Movie star off the Simpsons), so don’t mess with Ninja Pig!!!
Ninja Pig is made out of a Ninja and a Pig, When you put them together it makes, Ninja Pig. Ninja Pig comes from a galaxy way up in space. He sleeps at day and karate chops at night. If you come across ninja pig he will karate chop your head off and backwards kick your arms off for his midnight snack.
Ninja Pig is not afraid of anything except for light, so always take a torch when you go out at night. This creature is rare but will strike without warning so next time you go out at night remember a light or Ninja Pig with strike. He approaches without a sign and is as heavy as a full bottle of wine.
Ninja pig is round and has a black suit with red flames around the outside of his suit. The flamed suit is indestructible and he carries his machete and Ak47 on his belt, he uses them to kill his enemies. If you see him put his hand in his mouth, you’re dead! It is special poison that only ninja pigs can survive you will die instantly.
Ninja Pig’s main diet is humans, but when he gets sick of human flesh he moves onto takeaways. You might see him at Carls Junior, McDonald's, Burger king, Mac's fish & chips, KFC and his favourite is Westermans.
When he catches you he kills you and takes the blood, eye balls and testicles out and freezes them for an ice block. Next time you go out and about be sure to watch out for Ninja Pig.

Our New Puppy
Henry and I hop out of the kayaks and walk along the edge of the stream. We were telling jokes to each other and then my mum turns up at where the puppies are.
We sprint over to the car and ask what's she doing. She walks over to the puppies and carries one over to me and she says “how about this one”. I ask her “What do you mean” she says that we can take the puppy today. Mum gets me to get her sack that she will sleep on out of the boot and put in on the ground in the front seat.
Henry and I kayak back down stream back to his house. Mum tells me that the dog cried the whole way home. We run around with them the whole time. When the adults were talking the dogs had a scrap and Henry’s dog bit our dogs ear and made it bleed. We name our dog Nala off the lion king. She has a lot of mischief in her. She loves
to chew on laces off shoes and she eats socks. My Dad throws a fake duck into the air and pretends to shoot it, He tells the dog to go get it. She goes and gets it but dad brings it back with her. There is only one thing that I don’t like and that is that she is not allowed inside.

Taj Mahal
This is my Taj mahal art and here is a quick summary. It also has an Aurasma video when you scan it.
The Taj Mahal is an amazing building made for Mumtaz Mahal when she died. Shah Jahan ordered this 171 metre building to be built in the 17th century. It took 22 years to build. It is built out of white marble. There were 20,000 workers working at the time. You are not allowed to bring things with engines because it might pollute the area with smoke and fumes. They made the Taj Mahal so that the sun is always gleaming on it. Joshua

Chinkara Report
The hidden chinkara gazelle.
Today Joshua and Henry are creating a report on chinkara.
A chinkara is a type of deer that lives in the wild.
So read this report and tell me if this is interesting.
Description
A chinkara is a type of deer that can last without water for a long, long time. Another name for the Chinkara is a gazelle. The adult Chinkara stands about 65 cm tall and it weighs about 23 kgs.
A chinkara has a smooth reddish coat in the summer and in the colder months the chinkaras chest, belly and throat become a few shades lighter.
Life
They live for 12 to 15 years but they normally get killed by other animals or they get taken to a zoo. The female only has one or two babies a year. Males compete for the rights of the baby. There is more men gazelle so men don’t always get a women.
Habitat
They live in Plain grasslands, open jungles and tropical woodlands. There habitat is spread over different regions.
They also live in Deserts, Forests, Hot Deserts, Shrublands, Tropical Dry forest and Tropical Dry Shrubland.
Diet
The Chinkara will eat Grasses, Many types of fruit, Green leaves and Buds of flowers in the wild. They class the chinkara as a vegetarian.
They will eat grubs if really hungry.
Threats
- Stray dogs.
Stray dogs get into like a square with the chinkara in the middle then they all walk up on it.
- Lions
Lions kill gazelles at night.
- Tigers
They will stalk them at night.
- Hyena
Hyenas kill baby gazelle. so it is easier to chase them down.
- Cheetah
Cheetahs run them down and pick on the cubs.
- Humans
Shoot them and catch them in nets and cages.
Did you know?
They can survive without water.
Poacher don’t get gazelle as much as stray dogs do.
Five to seven chinkara are injured daily.
They mate once a year and males compete for access to females.
Thanks for reading our report and I hope you learnt a bit too.

Letter to Ken Catran
Dear Ken Catran,
Hi, My name is Joshua. As a class we have finished reading Dead Harry. I was amazed with all of the great words you used. The book made our class want to read more when we finished the chapter and sometimes it went our way. The story was interesting and it told us about all of the characters feelings.
My favourite character in the book would have to be Harry because he is a ghost and he is very funny. I like how you have him humor. My next favourite character is Sam. My favourite part in the book is when sam is in the hospital bed and the man tries to inject something into Sam and another one is when the fire happens when they are locked in the cupboard.
After we read your book our class got into groups of 4 and 5 and we made trailers for people to read your book. On our class blog we have got a poll on the side to see what dead harry trailer you like. It would be awesome if you could vote.
If you get this letter it would be cool if you could reply.
Yours sincerely, Joshua
P.S the trailer that my group made is group A.

My Dragon
Description
The dragon has sharp claws and it was breathing out smoke. He has a scaly body and thin wings. He was sitting on my finger tips with a smirk on his face. He has sly eyes and a curly tail wrapping around my finger.
story
He lands on my finger with a suspicious look. I stare in his eyes and he smiles, I ask him “what have you been up to” He points outside with his pointy tail and my mouth drops. “You have burnt down the city, go to your room!” He walks into his Kennel. He comes out an hour later. I tell him we are going up town. He turns into a big dragon and I jump on his back.
We arrive at Kmart and I tell him not to get lost. I put his leash on him and then tie the other end to the chair then I walk away. When I come back his leash has little teeth marks in it. I think to myself “Where has he gone” I see a little speck in the sky. There he is, he is performing tricks in the sky. A huge crowd gathers around. They say is it a bird? is it a plane? nope, it’s a dragon.
Here is a dragon I created.

Whio report
People know that whio is a bird but not much people know that it Is endemic. whio are not birds that you will find in town and in your stream they are rare birds. Find out more facts further on in this report
Have you ever seen that bird on the ten dollar note? Or have you ever heard about it? Well now you will. That bird is a whio or a blue duck. It is endemic to New Zealand, that means that it is native but only can be found in New Zealand. A whio has webbed feet to help it sail down flowing water and also to help them perch on rocks. The whio likes to live in clean and clear flowing rough water. The name blue duck comes from its blue/grey feathers that help it to camouflage against the rocks. They are called whio because that is the sound the male makes. The whio has rubbery scrapers on their bill they are like rubbery lips to help them to scrape larvae and bugs off rocks.
A female whio does not quack, they make a low sounding growl. whio like to stay in the same part of the river for their whole life. The whio will mate and stay together for its whole life, if one of the pair dies the other will find another whio and will stay in the same part of the river. The male and female just about look the same but the male is slightly larger. The blue duck is smaller than the common mallard ducks that you have probably seen. Blue duck is an old species of duck. It has evolved in New Zealand by itself.
Blue duck feeds for the first few hours of the morning and again at night. The female lays her eggs at the beginning of September. She will lay her eggs in a hole in the river bank, caves and under plants. She will lay five to six eggs and will sit on them for a long time. The male protects the egg? He will wait on the river near the nest. The ducklings are born in October, they are white and grey and really fluffy. They have really big feet and they can swim straight away.
If the ducklings are alarmed they will flattern their self down onto the rocks. It helps them camouflage so the predator can't see them. The young chicks can't fly for up to eighty days. Once they leave the protection of their parents they will soon start flying. They will move up and down the river to find a home. The female blue duck is more at risk than the male because at nesting time wild cats, ferrits and stoats can attack them. The blue duck is an endangerd specie. Their numbers are very low compared to what they once were. They have disapeard from most places and there is about 2000 left in New Zealand. Scientists are trying their best to find a way to increase their numbers.
Thank you for reading this report. We need to respect the blue duck/ whio. It is a beautiful bird. I hope you enjoyed.

The two wildebeests
Here is the second part of my story
Here is my story
“Come on man, lets cross the river,” said the wildebeest.
“Nah, there’s a crocodile,” said the other wildebeest.
“No, it’s a log,” said the wildebeest.
“See it’s a crocodile, I bet you it will move when I punch it,” said the other wildebeest.
“Nope, it’s a log,” said the wildebeest.
“Listen to me man, it’s a crocodile!” said the other wildebeest.
“No, it’s a floating log,” said the first wildebeest.
“Look, I will poke it with this stick and then it will come and eat you.” said the other wildebeest.
“Haa, haa, I was right, It’s a log,” said the wildebeest.
“Look, I will jump on it and I bet that it is a crocodile,” The other wildebeest jumps.
“Maybe you were right it was a log,” said the other wildebeest.
CHOMP!!!
“You were right, it was a crocodile.” said the alive wildebeest.
“Hey dad,” said the wildebeest.
“Hi son, is that a log?”

Rippa rugby
Report for Rippa rugby
Yesterday Parkvale school entered two Rippa rugby teams, I was in the A team. In our first game we faced Irongate and they were up 2-0 at the end of the first half then we picked our game up and drew four all. After that game we were off and we started to have big wins like 10-0 in tries. It all came down to the semi finals. We faced the Parkvale B team, that was a challenge. At full time we thought it was 3-2 to The A team but one of Sam's tries was dissallowed and that made it two all. We go into golden point so the first team to score wins. I could feel the tension building up and then Daniel makes a break through and scores that means that Parkvale A goes into the finals. We run out onto the field and start to play. Te Mata score a few tries but then the ball gets passed along the line and then to me. I dive over the line and put the ball down. That makes it 2-3. Time flies and Te Mata score a few more tries and then we do, the whistle blows and the finals are over. The score was 5-3.
Reflection for Rippa rugby
∙ Something I was pleased with was that I got lots of rips
...because I saved tries
∙ I really enjoyed learning not to run backwards
...because you can't see what's happening
∙ Something I found hard was keeping up with the fast people in my team
∙ Something that made me think was what way to run
...because there could be a gap that I missed
∙ Something I want to get better at is making sure of the rip.
Here is a photo of me

Camp reflection
Reflection for Camp
My goal for camp was to hold a weta.
... I achieved running up the pipe line.
Something I was pleased with was that I did the rope challenge in the last cave.
…because it was really fun.
I really enjoyed learning that a kiwi makes a clicking noise with its beak.
…because it is angry.
Something I found hard was turning one way in a double kayak.
Something that made me think was some of the questions in the quiz.
…because some of them I never would of heard of.
· My top 5 favourite things about camp were:
Favourite Things. Reason Why
1.Caving. because we got really muddy
2.Kayaking. because I got really wet
3.Pipe line. because it was challenging
4.confidence course. because it was fun and hard
5.rock hopping. because we got to climb up big rocks
This is my favourite photo
